Chances are your results depend on other people working well with you to get outcomes. In a business environment they could be your own staff, sales people, resellers or distributors.
The engagement, attitude and discretionary effort of those people will have a tangible impact on the results they achieve with you. Like a hot air balloon, this engagement and the results that follow might lift, fall or stay steady.
Actions and decisions either add lift to their balloon, or weights to their basket. Your policies, systems, structure and rewards all influence their altitude (and therefore yours).
Perhaps there are market conditions, regulations or business situations adding weight that you just can’t get avoid. If that’s the case, what are you doing to add lift? How are you removing obstacles, supporting their efforts and doing more to help them to rise to the level you need?
You might not have much influence over the speed of the winds or the direction they blow, but if you want to fly high, you need to add more lift than you do weight.
